6 Months with Norah Jane

It’s been 6 months with Norah Jane and we’re telling you all about it, along with a super exciting announcement. I hope you enjoy!

Hello 2019! And also, hello lovers of food and My Modern Cookery. Allow me to introduce myself, I’m Matt, the husband to the amazing force behind MMC, Paige. Some of you may already know of me, but for those who don’t, I’ve been behind the scenes of My Modern Cookery for some time now, mainly dealing with the back-end of the website as well as analytics. Outside of the geeky stuff, photography has always been a hobby of mine and when Paige decided she was going to start a food blog, I jumped at the opportunity to help photograph the food. We’ve been fine-tuning our abilities ever since and have created a well-oiled machine. Most recently, I’ve taken on the responsibilities of marketing, photography, recipe taste-tester and being the occasional hand model. I’m sure spouses of other food bloggers can relate.

So, many of you may be thinking, “This isn’t another delicious recipe from Paige” well, you’d be right. However, there are multiple pictures of a baby, so hold tight. This blog is constantly evolving, whether it be new types of recipes or a different style of photography, but from the start, it was about feeding people and bringing families together at the dinner table. With that being said, this section of the blog will be dedicated to showing the family side of things at MMC. I’ve been itching to create an outlet to share some of the photos I’ve taken since the creation of this blog, and Paige being the genius that she is, decided there’s more to My Modern Cookery than food. We’d like to give everyone (who cares) an insight into our lives outside of eating, (there’s very little of anything else going on). I hope that you all will enjoy seeing and reading what we plan on sharing, if you don’t, that’s cool too.

So without further ado, welcome to the life side of the blog! As most of you know, our world has changed dramatically over the past 6 months. Cue Norah Jane Johnson, she’s been introduced to the blog in the past, but this post is mainly about her. 🙂 I know it’s cliche to say, but it’s strange to think about of our lives without this kid. It’s like we were able to hand select exactly what we’d like our child to be. And if you’re wondering, yes, she’s more perfect than any other child in the world. She just feels…right. She loves to be close, loves to laugh, and loves to fight at bedtime. Seriously, we’re googling all the googles trying to get this child to have a better sleep routine. We know, it’s temporary and things will work themselves out, but we’re always sleepy. Why didn’t people tell us how hard this would be?!? 😉

Seriously, we’ve enjoyed every second of the past 6 months, even the tougher days. Below are some of the highlights with Norah. I could take pictures of this child allllll day and I think she’s starting to figure that out. When we get out our phones or a camera it’s like someone yelled, “action” and she turns the cuteness on.

Day one. The day that sleep left and Norah entered. I remember this day so vividly. It all went way too fast. I forgot to eat, almost passed out, and cried multiple times from the overwhelming sensation of becoming a dad. Paige was the strongest that day than I’ve ever seen her before. From arriving to the hospital at 6:00am, delivering that squishy thing at 5:07pm and everything in between, women are clearly the superior of the two. There were tornado’s, power outages, and constant visits from family and friends. It was such a special day!

These two pictures are probably our favorite yet. We actually have these in black and white hanging in our living room. She was so tiny and sweet and cuddly and perfect. Also, it helps us to remember just how much hair this child had! It’s crazy and exciting to look back and see the changes that happened so quickly.

Norah’s a fan of taking baths, but then again who isn’t. After 6 months she’s starting to understand that they can’t last all evening.

We continued our family tradition with this young lady of picking out our Christmas tree and maybe I’m crazy, but this year’s Christmas tree was the BEST.

Paige and I are snow lovers and along with the kid, we couldn’t wait to wake up on this morning and see just how much snow we’d gotten. Even though we’re not in picture, you can guarantee we had similar faces going on.

If you’ve made it this far into the post, thanks and I hope you enjoyed a little dive into the first 6 months of our life with Norah. Paige and I plan to use this space to share things we’ve learned, things that we find useful, places we’ve visited and whatever else we can come up with. If you have any thoughts or suggestions, comment in the down below area and we’ll take them with a grain of salt. Happy New Year, not sure when to stop saying that. Bye.

Having heard "cooking is love made visible", and catching this glimpse into your family's life with the adorable Norah, I'm sure Paige will have many more beautiful dishes to share. Hope you have your best year ever!
