Hello everyone! Welcome to Summer Refreshment Week on My Modern Cookery! This week I’ll be bringing you three refreshing beverages to get you through these hot and humid summer days. The first drink I’ll be showing you is a honey lavender lemon aid. The thing about blogging recipes is that sometimes you think you’ve made up a unique and well thought out dish, and then come to find out that there are dozens just like the one that you so proudly proclaimed your own. That happened with this particular recipe. I bought some culinary lavender on a whim at World Market recently and couldn’t wait to find something to create with it. Knowing that lemon is a fairly common pairing with lavender, I thought it would be a great idea to steep my new purchase with simple syrup and add it to some tangy lemonade. So I did! And then it turned out that Oprah and 4,093 other people did as well! I digress…this lemonade is so flavorful, relaxing, and refreshing that you must join the rest of us and try it! This drink would be beautiful to serve at a baby or wedding shower, or just for a lazy day picnic. I froze some lovely edible flowers into ice cubes to serve with it as well. Enjoy!
Recipe from Joy the Baker
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup honey
- 3 tablespoons dried culinary lavender
- 2 cups fresh lemon juice
- 4 cups water
- In a medium pot over medium heat, combine 2 cups water, and sugar. Bring to a boil and stir until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat. Stir in honey and lavender. Cover and let steep for 10-15 minutes. Strain out lavender and press buds into the bottom of the strainer to release any syrup left behind.
- In a large pitcher, combine lemon juice, lavender syrup, and water. Stir and chill. Serve cold, over ice.
