Sweet and Sour Baked Hot Wings

Some things in life just aren’t fair, like these Sweet and Sour Baked Hot Wings. Or like, the fact that the end of football season AND Valentine’s Day both come in the month following the start of all of our New Year’s resolutions. I was wandering around our local Walmart the other day (as you do), and I had to tear my eyes away from all of the heart-shaped boxes of candy and chip and dip displays. Instead of breaking down and indulging in the junk food, I went straight for my trusty Truvia Natural Sweetener Spoonable, which I use in SO many sweet and savory dishes.

I try my best to live healthfully all year long (not just January), but let’s be real…we all fall off the wagon a bit during the holidays. That’s the main reason why I love having resolutions to kick start your mindset into living a more healthy life on the regular. If you’re just starting on a weight loss journey, I HIGHLY recommend getting started with eliminating sugary drinks and swapping Truvia Natural Sweetener Spoonable for added sugar. You won’t be disappointed.

The recipe I am sharing with you today is perfect for this time of year (but really, when can we not eat wings?). It has fresh tang from lime juice, a spicy kick from sriracha and a subtle sweetness that’s thanks to Truvia Natural Sweetener Spoonable. See that versatility? It’s not just for coffee, people! Although… that’s pretty great too.

Leave me a comment letting me know how you plan on keeping your healthy resolutions! TBH, I can use all the help I can get, AND click HERE for more healthy recipes!

Recipe Type: Appetizer
Author: My Modern Cookery
Prep time:
Cook time:
Total time:
Serves: about 15 wings
Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 lbs chicken wings, drummettes separated
  • 2 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • 2 tbsp sriracha
  • 1 tbsp low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp rice vinegar
  • 1 clove of garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp Truvia Natural Sweetener Spoonable
  • chopped cilantro, sesame seeds and green onion to garnish
Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Spread your chicken wings and drummettes out on a non-stick baking sheet and pat dry with a paper towel. Lightly salt and pepper. Place in preheated oven and bake for 45 minutes.
  3. While the chicken is baking you can make the sauce.
  4. To make the sauce, add lime juice, sriracha, soy sauce, sesame oil, vinegar, garlic and Truvia Natural Sweetener Spoonable to a medium pot and bring to a boil.
  5. Simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce is thick. Set aside until the wings are ready.
  6. When the wings are done, remove them from the oven and turn the heat up to broil. Brush the sauce all over top of the wings and return them to the oven.
  7. Broil for 3-5 minutes, watching very carefully the whole time so they don’t burn. You want them to look crispy and sticky, but not black.
  8. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped cilantro and scallion. Enjoy!

Those wings look delicous! I love how you added the Asian flair to them and reduced the sugar content at the same time. Definitely a fun party food! #client
