This post may look a bit different than what you’re used to seeing, but it’s something I’ve been wanting to incorporate along side my regular posts for a while now. My weekly craves is a rundown of all things that I have been loving, lusting, and obsessing over throughout the week. These posts will contain anything from my favorite blogs and apps to cookbooks and local businesses. With all of that being said, lets jump straight into this weeks list!!
Heine Brothers Coffee App
Those of you who live in Louisville should be familiar with Heine Brothers Coffee. They have long since been my favorite coffee shop and have 13 locations all over Louisville. I have always been a member of their perks program, and they recently launched an awesome mobile payment/rewards system! With the Heine Brothers app for smartphones, you can pay for your coffee and leave a tip with one quick scan of your phone! For your birthday, they give you $3 to use in-store toward your next purchase. Who doesn’t love a discounted coffee on your birthday? For every $50 you spend you get $3 towards your next purchase. The app also contains a nifty reward tracker that shows your progress towards your next $3 credit. Read more about the Heine Brothers perk app on their website!
Chef
The iTunes synopsis of the movies says, “Written by, directed by, produced by and starring Jon Favreau – Chef features an all-star cast including Sofia Vergara, Scarlett Johansson, John Leguizamo, Bobby Cannavale, Dustin Hoffman, Oliver Platt, Robert Downey Jr. and young actor Emjay Anthony. When Chef Carl Casper (Jon Favreau) suddenly quits his job at a prominent Los Angeles restaurant after refusing to compromise his creative integrity for its controlling owner (Dustin Hoffman), he is left to figure out what’s next. Finding himself in Miami, he teams up with his ex-wife (Sofia Vergara), his friend (John Leguizamo) and his son (Emjay Anthony) to launch a food truck. Taking to the road, Chef Carl goes back to his roots to reignite his passion for the kitchen — and zest for life and love.” Matt and I genuinely loved this movie. For me, It was fun seeing the familiarity of a restaurant kitchen along with the passion for food that the main character conveys. I would highly recommend checking out this movie if you want something inspiring and funny that you can watch with your entire family.

“Tyler Florence, Inside the Test Kitchen”
In 2012 I had the opportunity to attend a seminar/demonstration at The Incredible Food Show, in Lexington KY. Hosting this demo was the talented celebrity chef, Tyler Florence. I have always enjoyed watching Tyler on The Food Network, but after hearing him speak and cook in person, my love was taken to a whole new level. I love the fact that he had very humble beginnings and worked hard at his craft from a very early age. In his newest cookbook, “Inside the Test Kitchen“, Tyler reinvents 120 recipes by using updated techniques that he has developed over the years. From how to reduce the cooking time of your Thanksgiving turkey, to simplifying hollandaise (aka the bane of every culinary students existence). This book has updated how-to’s on some of the most classic dishes. This one is definitely on my Christmas wish-list!
