I’m that girl that comes to a tailgate for the food and not the game. I’m obsessed with all game day food and coming up with new fun recipes this time each year is so much fun. I’m kicking it off with these Cheesy Chicken Jalapeño Popper Sliders that are enough to get. me. drooling. KING’S HAWAIIAN® Original Sweet Slider Buns are the star of the show here, to add a sweet juxtaposition to the spicy(ish) filling and make these sliders irresistible. 

You guys know how much I love a family-owned business and King’s Hawaiian is still holding on to its roots in Hilo, Hawaii today that began in 1950. 2020 marked the 70th anniversary of King’s Hawaiian, representing a significant milestone for the entire Taira family and the extended family.

I actually made these Hawaiian Ham and Pineapple Sliders a couple of years ago with the King’s Hawaiian Original Sweet Slider Buns which wasn’t sponsored by them, so you know it’s true love! 

Everything is truly better between King’s Hawaiian Bread. I remember my first time eating King’s Hawaiian Bread as a kid. My mom always made the spinach dip and served it in the middle of a hollowed-out loaf of the King’s Hawaiian Original Hawaiian Sweet Round Bread, with the cut-out chunks for serving.

I’ve been enamored with the brand ever since and have so enjoyed all the varieties they’ve released over the years. 

This recipe is so simple, so crowd-pleasing, and so delicious. You can adjust the heat level depending on your preference and customize it to your heart’s content. This is truly the epitome of game day food and I’m so happy to be sharing it with you!

Ingredients and Subs

King’s Hawaiian Original Sweet Slider Buns — You could opt for using 9 of the King’s Hawaiian Original Hawaiian Sweet Rolls if you already have them on-hand and just slice them in half yourself! King’s Hawaiian also offers hotdog buns, hamburger buns, sliced bread, and mini sub rolls in addition to the dinner rolls you already know and love.

There’s literally nothing better in the summer than a juicy hot dog with a pickle spear on a King’s Hawaiian Hot Dog Bun, don’t @ me. 

How to make

Preheat the oven to 350ºF.

In a medium-sized bowl, combine the cream cheese, cheddar, bacon, jalapeño, green onions, salt, and pepper. Set aside.

I love using King’s Hawaiian Original Sweet Slider Buns to meal prep my breakfasts for the week!

They perfectly fit a sausage patty with one fried egg and a sprinkle of your favorite cheese. I like to wrap the whole thing in foil and then pop it in the toaster oven to get nice and warm to start my morning. 

How to store Cheesy Chicken Jalapeño Popper Sliders

This recipe is perfect for prepping the night before the Big Game. Wrap tightly in plastic wrap or place in an airtight container and keep in the refrigerator or freezer until ready to bake.

Tightly wrapped and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator, leftovers will last up to 3 days.  You may freeze for up to 2 weeks.

Cheesy Chicken Jalapeño Popper Sliders

Ingredients

• 1 package KING’S HAWAIIAN® Original Sweet Slider Buns
• 4 ounces softened cream cheese
• 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
• 6 bacon slices, cooked and crumbled
• 1 -2 large jalapeño, finely minced and removed of seeds (use less for less spicy, more for spicier, and you can include the seeds also if you want to increase the heat.)
• 1/4 cup green onions, sliced
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1/4 teaspoon pepper
• 1/2 lb thin sliced deli chicken 
• 4 tablespoons butter
• 1/2 teaspoon everything bagel seasoning

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350ºF.
   
2. In a medium-sized bowl, combine the cream cheese, cheddar, bacon, jalapeño, green onions, salt, and pepper. Set aside.
   
3. Place the King's Hawaiian Original Sweet Slider Buns in an 8x8 pan and remove the top buns. Separate the cream cheese mix into 9 equal portions and pat into a small disk about the size of the bottom buns. Place one cream cheese disk on each bottom bun.
   
4. Top with an even layer of sliced deli chicken and then replace the top buns.
   In the microwave or a small saucepan, combine the butter with the everything bagel seasoning. Pour evenly over the top of the sliders. Bake for 15-20 minutes until hot through and golden brown. Serve warm.
