Norah’s Messy First Birthday Party

Thank you Brawny® Tear-A-Square® for sponsoring this post. Think of all the ways you can Put a Square There!

Can you believe that our Norah Jane is officially one year old?! I swear, it seems like just yesterday I was rushing to get posts ready so I could take some “maternity leave” from the blog. This has been by far the best year of my life and I’m so excited to watch her grow. As much as we’re mourning the baby phase, we’re both so excited for what’s to come. We threw her a small birthday party with our closest family and friends, and wanted to share with you a few things that made the day memorable!

I decided that I wanted to make her a smash cake, but ended up getting cupcakes from a local bakery for the guests. The recipe that I used for her cake was a Sally’s Baking Addiction Vanilla Sheet Cake that I cut 6-inch rounds out of. To say she loved it was an understatement. You can see the mess that she made digging in! Thankfully, we had plenty of the new Brawny® Tear-A-Square® paper towels on-hand to clean up any spills and smears! New Brawny® Tear-A-Square® paper towels are truly revolutionary. You can choose to rip off a full sheet, half sheet, and there are quarter sheet sizes so that you to choose what you need based on your mess. That way, you don’t have to waste more paper towel than you need! We actually tore off some of the quarter sheets so that guests could easily grab one as they filled up their plate or grabbed a cupcake. It was so convenient to not have to buy napkins AND paper towels. Since we had a lot of kids at her party, there was definitely a fair share of spills, and the Brawny® Tear-A-Square® paper towels were strong enough to clean up even the biggest cake catastrophes. Not to mention, I had plenty of need for those the night before the party while cooking and baking everything. The Brawny® Tear-A-Square® paper towels were a life-saver with all that buttercream on the counter!

As for decor, we didn’t go too crazy. The biggest focal point was the balloon arch that we made that had her name in mylar balloons in the middle. We just bought a simple balloon arch kit online and added in some fresh greenery and a few different balloons. I bought the letter balloons along with a big “1” mylar balloon and they worked out great! We served a raspberry mango punch that was a big hit and of course, a giant charcuterie board. We also had pimento cheese, cucumber, and chicken salad sandwiches for everyone, along with various salads and chips and dip. We swam, opened a ton of presents, and enjoyed the sunny (HOT) day with all of our favorite people. It couldn’t have been any better if you ask me!
